As a team we decided to focus on the problem meal prices. This is because we agreed that ever since elementary or middle school that meal prices has gone at least a quarter. And now we think that the meal prices are outrageous for a family that just makes enough to get by having to pay for overpriced meals.

Letter concern

Dear Neal Abercrombie,
Hello I am Branden Pascual from Moanalua High School and it has come to my attention that meal prices are escalating. In the state of  hawaii the lunch price is $2.50 and for a second lunch it cost $5.00. Its really sad for me to see that some students cant afford lunch and having been able to starve. Also if you come to school in the morning to eat lunch and breakfast its cost around $4 everyday for five weeks which comes to about $20 a week and $80 a month. Thats a lot of money for my parents to keep up with and for me to go through the whole year its about $960. Money that could be better off spent somewhere else toward my education then eating overpriced lunches. I propose a cut in the school lunches so its much more affordable. Since hawaii imports most of their food from the mainland it. About 90% of the grocery items come from the mainland alone and only a fraction of our grocery items come from here. It makes sense that the food we eat will cost more in Hawaii. But if we are able to grow our own crops and make our own food from the local stores. I believe food prices not in schools but everywhere else also would start to decline.
