Belief Essay rough

“If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything.” By Malcolm X. This quote says to me, ‘keep strong in your belief’. For example, if my friend, Josh, were with his friends and they were doing something that Josh had no real worry about them doing, even if he knew it was wrong to do, and then Josh would probably allow it to go on. Yet, if it turned out bad, Josh may not even be fazed by what had happened. Josh may even repeat the path himself. And Josh will have fallen for that ‘anything’ in the quote, because he didn’t have any stand against it. I’d fell for that anything.

I chose this quote because I can relate to it. I chose it, because it’s relevant in a way that most people would understand. It can mean a million different things to a billion different people. It can say something about how they live their lives, what they’ve gone through, how they’ve acted in different situations. It can mean anything to them. To me it means something just as well. I may be only one of those millions of people, but my opinion may be so much different to theirs. I picked this quote because, to me, it means making mistakes in life, looking back, thinking you could’ve done better, but at the end falling for anything.

That anything has gotten to me before. Ritchie is a friend of mine. We hang out a lot. We do a lot of stuff together. We sometimes do stuff that involves money. But it wasn’t always fair-share. Ritchie and I used to split bills for things half-and-half. But then it got to where I was paying more than what we used to. Soon after, he wasn’t paying his share at all. It was cool at first, because he’d make it up to me by taking the bill himself at times. But then, he just stopped. He didn’t pay anymore. I’d end up pouring out my money to pay for us, because he never did. And I never stood up for myself and confronted him about it. I just let it go on. And this was how I’d fell for it. I’ve  gone through a series of things. I went through a 50-50, then 60-40, and soon after it turned to a full 100. Now I know my limits. Now I have something to stand for.

I have three friends. Their names are Macky, Tyler, and Randay. Macky’s the nice one. Tyler’s a type of copy-cat. And Randay’s the violent one. They’d ditched school a lot. They’d always asked me to come, but I’d always refuse to go with them. Then one day, Macky packed up and left. He’d moved. Yet that didn’t stop him and the other two still continue their little rendezvouses. They’d ask me time after time to go before. I was still shocked, though, that Macky was planning to meet them up after ditching. I didn’t want to ditch, no matter how much they plead. I had something to stand for. And I wasn’t falling for that ‘anything’ again.

In the end, I found something in me. In a way, I found belief. I found how right that quote is about it all. How right it is, because if we don’t have something to believe in – something to stand up for, then we won’t do anything to stop wrong from happening, with others and with ourselves. So I know now what my beliefs are in. So I picked that quote, because I could relate to it in ways such as this.
